Date Night on White

Downtown Raleigh isn’t the only downtown to consider when date night pops up on the calendar. White Street, the exploding hub of downtown Wake Forest, continues to prove it’s a worthy contender for a fun evening.
We grabbed another couple and headed out on a Saturday night. The agenda:
Drinks at Tonic
Dinner at Bodega
Rooftop of Unwined on White
Live music at Magnolia Roots Music Lounge
Tonic Bar and Social Club
Upon entering Tonic Bar and Social Club, we were equally at home in our date night attire as those at the bar simply unwinding on a Saturday night. Tonic boasts unique hand-crafted cocktails, a rotating selection of North Carolina Craft Beers, and a curated wine list. Tonic doesn’t serve food, but they happily provide some nibbles if you need a snack.
We recommend: The Sexy Dogwalker Margarita.
Bodega Tapas, Wine & Rum
The hype for our dinner at Bodega was sky high-- and Bodega delivered. Bodega opened in February 2019 and quickly became a word-of-mouth sensation. Fans of Mateo in Durham will love Bodega. The same gather-and-share philosophy applies, and while there are a few large plate options, you can easily fill-up on the delicious variety of small plates. Expect an expert server to guide you through. Bodega also offers unique rum cocktails, which are unexpectedly dynamite.
We recommend: The Ship Down Rum cocktail, Lamb Ribs small plate, and a reservation.
Unwined
Across the street, the rooftop of Unwined was in full swing. Unwined is a unique concept of wine lounge meets yoga studio with a rare rooftop patio overlooking downtown Wake Forest. You can experience live music on the rooftop on Saturday nights, and we quickly learned you need to call ahead for a reservation as the rooftop can only accommodate a small crowd and it fills up quickly.
Unfortunately, we were shut down at Magnolia Roots Music Room too as they were closed for the July 4th Holiday weekend. Bummer, as it has been OTL for awhile now.
Time to round back to Tonic for one more Sexy Dog Walker.
Bottom Line: We’re ready for Date Night on White 2.0. Unwined, Magnolia Roots, and White Street Brewery here we come! Duly noted to plan a bit better.
